Six Ways To Improve Your Child's Study Habits

“You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”  -  John 8:32

Today, as perhaps never before, we Christians are engaged in a battle for truth.  The lines are drawn and the prize is nothing less than the minds of our youth.  Lest you think I am exaggerating, please allow me to quote a key postmodernist thinker, Richard Rorty, the liberal thinker who taught for years at such influential institutions as Wellesley, Princeton University, the University of Virginia, and Stanford University.  His statement is representative of the mindset that reigns today in the public square:

“The (Christian) parents of our (Christian) students think that the entire
‘American liberal establishment’ is engaged in a conspiracy.  These parents
have a point… we do our best to convince our students of the benefits of
secularization… I think these students are lucky to find themselves under
the benevolent Herrshaft [instruction] of people like me, and to have
escaped the grip of their frightening, vicious, dangerous parents.”

In addition to laying the academic foundation that will enable our graduates to compete successfully in the marketplace of the 21st century, we recognize an even greater need: to prepare our students to confront the opposition to their faith they will most certainly face, not only in the university, but in the workplace, in popular entertainment, the news media, and from friends and associates.  Because the only formula that can ensure success in life and at the Judgment Seat is to know and to apply God’s truth to our lives, we at CCS labor to inculcate that truth in the hearts and minds of our students.

Spiritually, our students are exposed to regular instruction in Bible classes, they attend weekly chapel services, and they can choose from a variety of ministry opportunities.  Additionally, our dedicated teachers labor to integrate God’s truth into every area of instruction, recognizing that God has expressed Himself not only in His Word, but in the physical world, in mathematics, in history, in logic, in language, and in the arts.

Academically, our students consistently score above state and national averages in every area measured by the standard college tests, including both the ACT and the SAT.  Our challenging academic program includes Advanced Placement courses and the Commonwealth Diploma.  Students can also benefit from participation in band, choir, and Sounds of Praise, the CCS singing tour group.  Our art students have received numerous honors and awards in local and tri-state competitions.

Physically, our athletic teams compete against some of the state’s toughest competition through our membership in the Kentucky High School Athletic Association.

The result is a well-rounded, rigorous program geared toward preparing our graduates to succeed throughout life…and eternity.

The middle school program at Calvary Christian School provides opportunity for spiritual, intellectual, social and physical growth.

Whether it is the weekly chapel service or prayer requests taken at the beginning of math class, students are encouraged to deepen their faith in God. We offer a challenging academic program with several electives, taught by a talented and caring faculty.

There are ample opportunities for students to interact with one another and build strong and lasting friendships. There are many extra-curricular opportunities for middle school students at CCS: sports, band, chorale, and National Junior Honor Society to name a few.
