kindergarten

Sandy ButlerWelcome to the C.C.S. website and the world of Kindergarten! It is our belief that a quality, Christian education must be Bible-based and mentally stimulating to our Kindergarten students.

Our curriculum provides age and developmentally appropriate material and activities to prepare students for their formal education. Throughout the school year we are striving towards the goal of reading as we introduce our letters phonetically. We cover parts of speech, book awareness, as well as an extensive math curriculum.

Since we are just five and six years old in Kindergarten world, we provide times of large motor skill activities to keep our growing bodies busy as well.

Last but certainly not least we have Bible time everyday. We include many of the well known Bible stories and teachings in our daily Bible curriculum. Each week students memorize scripture that reinforces the lessons taught.

Our goal is to educate the "whole" of the child. When children leave our Kindergarten classes our prayer is that they are prepared for first grade mentally, physically and spiritually.

In Bible we begin with creation and continue a journey throughout our Bibles highlighting major Bible stories.

In Math we start out with our numbers from 0 - 10 then continue the counting process until we eventually reach 100. We discuss opposites, shapes, money and time.

In Letters and Sounds we begin with beginning, middle and ending sounds.  These are blended into words and the words become sentences.  We use the Open Court Curriculum which is a reading program at the Kindergarten level.  By about week four of school we are reading small pre-decodable books that have a mixture of words and pictures for the children to read.  If the word is “slide” there may be a picture of a slide as well.  After Christmas break the pictures on these books are gone and there are just words for them to read.  It is fast paced and very enjoyable for the students.

In our Language Arts class we investigate different parts of speech.  We begin by discussing nouns, move on to verbs, adverbs and adjectives.  There are work sheets for the students to do during this time of learning but more important to the students are the great learning games that Miss Butler exposes them to in order to reinforce their knowledge of this subject.

Each day we have a "special" class such as Art, in room P.E., Library, Music and Storytime.
