SAY "YOU'RE SPECIAL" - MAY 5-9 - TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK
Here’s your opportunity to demonstrate your appreciation to our faculty, staff and administration. They have poured literally hundreds of hours into the lives of your children. This is a wonderful time to salute them for their dedication and faithful ministry. Take a few moments and jot them a note or send them a small bag of your favorite cookies. Be creative and include the entire family. It’s a great way to say, “WE LOVE YOU”.

WELL DESERVED ACCOLADES!!
This has been an active and eventful spring for a number of CCS students. Our MS Academic Team competed in the regional Governor’s Cup this year, placing 4th. Team members Adam Bamforth, Maddie Moss, and William Wadsworth progressed to the state finals, with Adam Bamforth placing 4th in the state of Kentucky in science! Congratulations to all of our MS Academic Team members for an outstanding year!
This year’s MS Science Fair was a huge success. Three of our students--Tim Pontzer, Lauren Webster, and Emily Embry--all qualified for the regional science fair which was held on Saturday, March 15, at Regents Hall at Northern Kentucky University. A total of 334 students from 30 Kentucky counties participated. Lauren was awarded 1st place in Physical Sciences, Junior Division. Tim was awarded 1st place in chemistry and 1st place overall in Natural Sciences, Senior Division, while Emily placed 1st place in Biology, 1st place overall in Life Science, and 2nd place in Natural Sciences, Senior Division. Both Tim and Emily won an all-expense paid trip for them and their sponsors to compete against 1200 other finalists from 40 countries at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Atlanta, GA, May 11-16! Quite an impressive showing for CCS! Congratulations as well to MS teachers Holly Varnum and Michele Prusinowski for all the planning, preparation, prodding, and pushing. Without their efforts, you wouldn’t be reading this announcement.
MS computer teacher Jonathan Schmid took a group of five CCS students to compete in the Kids Vote! web design competition, sponsored by Toyota Corporation. This was a first for CCS. Our five students were just edged out of first place by Ryle HS. Well-deserved congratulations go to team members Mike Francis, Rebecca Crone, Caleb Hughes, Josh McCord, and Parker Brown. Congratulations to our students for a terrific first time showing!
Senior Jordan Woods recently competed in the Cincinnatus Scholarship Competition, an invitation-only competition sponsored by the University of Cincinnati. From an original group of nearly 7,000 registrants representing 39 states, approximately 1,500 students qualified to compete in both essay and leadership exercises. Jordan made it to a semi-final group of 20 (you read it correctly: 20 out of 1,500) students who were interviewed by UC academic staff. Out of those 20 students, the list was pared to 10 students. You guessed it! Jordan was one of the top 10 finishers. As one of the top finishers, Jordan will receive a FULL four-year scholarship--tuition, books, room and board--to the University of Cincinnati, a prize worth approximately $76,000! Jordan has been a student at CCS since pre-school, and we are very, very proud of her amazing showing in the competition! Congratulations to a fine young lady!
ELEMENTARY COUGAR COUNCIL SERVES AT ACTION MINISTRIES
I John 3:18 tells us, “My dear children, let us not love with words or tongue, but with actions and in truth.” Our sixth grade Cougar Council members had the privilege of doing just that this past Friday, March 28, by volunteering their time to serve at Action Ministries located in Latonia. Action Ministries mission is to “share the love of Christ by providing groceries, hope, and encouragement to low income families.”
Action Ministries, totally staffed by volunteers and funded by churches and individuals, serves over six hundred families a month in our local area.
Pictured here, Council members Keely Borden, Craig Clemens, Carley Hilsher, Allie Myers, Evan Ousley, Natalie Sheppard, Sean Smith, and Jenna Webster served by sorting bread, packing up pampers, and labeling canned goods for distribution."
